i only just realised (courtesy of the boyfriend and the film) that this year, i shall be the meaning of life, the universe and everything.

hm

i know there's months to go still but i think a fancy dress would be most appropriate considering the importance?

Leave me a comment and I will reply with at least one reason why I like you or one thing I like about you. If I feel I don't know you well enough for that, I'll tell you why I like your LiveJournal or, at least, why I added you as a friend. You must pay for the privilege by posting a message like this one on your LiveJournal (unless, of course, you already did).

(well there's always ironing but not today)

i thought id check out where the fireworks are this year. what i found out, in addition to the actual information, was that the southwark council will not tolerate the throwing of eggs or flour nor irresponsible trick or treating. those caught throwing eggs (and/or presumably, trick-or-treating irresponsibly) could receive fixed penalty notices and on-the-spot fines, as well as be criminally persecuted.

anti-cake?!?!?!

also, the idea of irresponsible trick or treating inevitably brings to mind an image of, for some strange reason, michael palin knocking at a door, someone opening it, mp saying 'trick or treat', and then, when the person comes back with whatever sweets, mp goes, 'no, i was just kidding' while jumping about in the life-of-brian-leper way?!

maybe i should iron.

i first heard about john pilger quite by accident. for years ive been saying how there was no independent media in the uk (as growing up in yugoslavia makes you gain the 'state-propaganda-radar' i think) and a south african journalist who was working at the same place where i was could not stop talking about john pilger. i still havent read any of his books but have seen the films. not the same thing i know.

we got to the bookfair in plenty of time to nose around and pick up lots of interesting things, such as the chickweed fanzine (all about using the wild food for eating and medicinal purposes), a few interesting local history booklets, etc

the talk itself is a q&a really, where the organisers kicked things off with a couple of questions about chavez, venezuela, nicaragua, then onto the audience whose questions were about the £50 billion bailout by which the state again protected itself (not the tax-payer, never the tax-payer), the increased surveillance society, the new cold war, imperialism, american presidential election...

it was an interesting one, especially as a couple of people by the end of the session told pilger off for thinking that barak obama is just another man in the system.

how do you, for example, google a bit of a tune from a soundtrack that you have only vague idea where it could be from?

there should be a place where you can google to, sing the bit of the tune towards the computer & presto!

i did manage to find out who wrote the soundtrack though, mainly because i'm a bit of a genius :)

i spend minutes chuckling at the idea of me being a 'militant vegan' although of course this couldn't be further from the truth. i couldn't do militant as hard as i try.

anyways, so i went to a meeting with the organisers of a green fair, taking place next month. and as the meeting progressed, the question of 'should we have meat in the fair' came up. to me this was not a question at all, as i saw the whole event as a celebration of alternatives. the argument was that 'by not having meat, you are alienating a large section of people who do eat meat. we don't want people to have to leave and go somewhere else to eat.'

people do not go to fairs and festivals to eat, unless of course, the event/festival is a specifically culinary/gourmet one.

by having the meat dishes in a green fair, you are both underestimating people's ability to accept change and also partly confirming the misconception of a large section of people that you can only 'fill up' if there is meat in your meal.

by not having meat, on the other hand, you are saying, 'look, there's no meat in this food and it's still yummy' and be happy and proud etc about it.

at home though, i want to magick away all the pains.

earlier this week we went to myddleton gardens and a nursery which are somewhere in edmonton or enfield and very much beyond london.

there is some profound desolateness about rows of terraced lives overlooking a stream of cars.

the terraces seem to mark ends of cities, whether you go east or west or north... after the terraces, there are wastelands of giant diy stores for giants and drivethrough junkdoms

I think it's inevitable that as we read each other's journals we create mental pictures of each other. Post a picture representative of how you see me to my comments, and then post this on your own journal to find out who your friends see when they read about your life. (if you want to, of course.)

Two Rules:
1) The person must be in the movies or on TV (but doesn't have to be an actor/actress). The person can be specific to a role (e.g. Jennifer Elhe's Elizabeth Bennet) or just the person them self.
2) Post a picture!

you know, the colour ones, which can clearly be used as weapons against art?!

imagine a drop of the £2,000,000 given to your local charity or your local school or your local hospital. or a drop of it given to prevent corporate crimes against people, people's living and working conditions, people's futures?

not today, as there are dangerous pens and water pipes and health and safety money issues that need to be protected.

We managed to pull off the very first Southwark Freecycle event, people had donated some 180kgs of things (including a zimmerframe, two barstools, loads of clothes, books, videos, bits and bobs for the house) and at the end of the day all we had left was 47kgs - I'm more than chuffed with this as god knows I'd been panicking and worrying etc.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and really appreciated the idea which I think is all that matters.

spam
no, not the song

i am almost certain that, at some point in the fuzzy past, i read about who the spammers are, and if you don't mind telling me again, please do.

i just discovered that, in july i received 2579 spam emails, and that's just on my gmail address.

today, for example, i can attract women by sending out secret scents, buy stuff in the world's largest online prescription-free apothecary, see this funny video, watch the ladies who are married but lonely, play bingo, borrow between 5,000 and 25,000, and so on and so on.

how does it work though? (in plain english?)

when you eat honey sandwiches and some (i'm not saying large although ari would probably disagree) quantities of honey end up on your jeans & you wipe them away but the mark is still there, does this go away in the wash?

thank you

about sums up the most recent nondevelopments with them local moderators.

how do you communicate with someone who does not reply to your emails for over a month? how do you 'engage' with them when they, when asked for help, do not bother replying with even the short 'sorry, i'm really snowed under/busy/whatever'?!

it's really really frustrating and i totally ran out of ideas. unless i'm meant to be using my psychic powers or smoke signals?
